President of NAACP Providence Branch Suspended

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Providence Branch has seen a shift in leadership recently, with former president Gerard Catala being suspended due to charges of violating state campaign finance laws. Catala, who still holds a position as a gold subscribing life member, was elected president in Fall 2022 but faced legal issues in January 2023. He insists that his court troubles are not related to the suspension and is awaiting the outcome of his appeal.

Meanwhile, Nicole Tingle, who previously served as Catala’s Vice President, has taken over as president of the chapter. Tingle declined to comment on the specifics of Catala’s suspension, instead stating that an official press conference will be held to address the recent developments and provide clarity on the leadership direction and community programs of the NAACP Providence Branch.

The upcoming press conference is expected to shed more light on the changes within the organization and outline its future direction under new leadership. Catala remains hopeful that his appeal will lead to a different outcome and is focusing on his family during this time.
