The Fordham Rams men’s basketball team unleashed their offense in today’s Atlantic 10 Championship game against Rhode Island, scoring 88 points to secure a 88-71 victory and advance to the second round. Senior guard Jackie Johnson III led all scorers with 29 points, while grad student guard Japhet Medor added 26 points and Romad Dean contributed 14 points.
Fordham led from the start, building a double-digit lead in the first half and maintaining control throughout the game. Despite a comeback attempt by Rhode Island in the second half, Fordham held on to secure the win.
This victory marks the fourth consecutive year that Fordham has won at least one game in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Additionally, the Rams became the first 15th seed to win a game at the Championship. With this win, Fordham will now face George Washington University in the second round.
Key players for Fordham include Johnson, who has scored in double figures in 31 out of 32 games this season, and Medor, who has scored in double figures in 15 of the past 18 games. The Rams have been a team of second chances, ranking third in the Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounds.
The upcoming game against George Washington will be the 46th meeting between the two teams, with the Revolutionaries holding a lead in the all-time series. However, the Rams have taken three of the past four matchups, making for an exciting second-round showdown.
