Eight Pawtucket firefighters are no longer with the department after an investigation revealed possible criminal activity resulting in violations of the public trust. The City of Pawtucket conducted an internal investigation, leading to four firefighters being fired and four choosing to resign or apply for retirement. The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office is also conducting a criminal investigation into the matter. The City of Pawtucket and the Attorney General’s Office declined to provide further comment due to the ongoing investigation. The City of Pawtucket emphasized that the actions of these firefighters do not reflect the dedication, integrity, or professionalism of the Fire Department as a whole. They reassured residents that public safety was not at risk and that full fire and emergency response services are being maintained.
