U.S. Vice President JD Vance is set to visit India next week, amidst escalating trade tensions between Washington and New Delhi. Accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children, Vance will arrive in India on April 21 for a four-day visit, which includes strategic meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visits to cultural landmarks in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.

The visit comes at a critical time, as global concerns over tariff increases and economic shifts continue to grow. Vance’s discussions with Indian leadership will focus on advancing shared economic and geopolitical objectives, including trade, energy diversification, and technology partnerships. The visit also aims to further progress made since the February 2025 Joint Statement issued during Modi’s visit to the US.

One of the key highlights of the trip is the expected formal launch of the India-US Technology Partnership, named “TRUST,” aimed at deepening collaboration in clean energy, nuclear technology, and digital innovation. Vance will also explore avenues for boosting cooperation in defense, regional security, and counter-terrorism.

In addition to official engagements, the visit holds personal significance as Usha Vance, of Indian origin, will return to the country with her family for the first time in an official capacity. While the itinerary includes visits to high-profile tourist destinations, the family is not expected to visit Andhra Pradesh, where some of Usha’s extended relatives reside.

Vance’s visit follows a series of senior US official trips to India, including meetings with key Indian officials by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. However, a scheduled visit by US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz has been postponed.
