Revolution prepares to take on Rhode Island FC in their debut match

In a highly anticipated matchup, the New England Revolution will face Rhode Island FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on May 7. This will be the first official clash between the two teams as Rhode Island FC, a USL Championship club, entered the scene in 2024 and had an impressive inaugural season. The Revolution, a seasoned MLS team, will return to the historic tournament after opting out in 2024.

The game will take place at Rhode Island’s new home venue in Pawtucket, Centreville Bank Stadium, and will be available to watch on Paramount+. The Revolution, having won the U.S. Open Cup in 2007 and making it to the final in 2001 and 2016, will bring their experience to the encounter.

In other sports news, the Worcester Red Sox dominated a doubleheader with the Rochester Red Wings, including a no-hitter and a grand slam. The Boston Celtics are gearing up for the playoffs against the Orlando Magic, and the Red Sox will face the White Sox in a series at Fenway Park.

Additionally, on this day in 1972, the Bruins defeated the Blues in Game 1 of the Semi-Finals with a hat-trick from Fred Stanfield. The day’s highlight came from a remarkable catch by K.W. Quilici in a college baseball game.

The upcoming U.S. Open Cup clash between the Revolution and Rhode Island FC promises an exciting match between two local rivals in the New England soccer scene.
