Over 900 Participants Rally Together for Monopoly World Record in Honor of Deceased Girl

Over 900 people gathered in Sydney, Australia to play Monopoly in memory of Alegra Vasiliou, a young girl who passed away from brain cancer in 2017. The event was organised by the Little Legs Foundation, an Australian charity dedicated to raising awareness and funds for childhood brain cancer. A total of 918 participants sat down at 150 tables to play simultaneous games of Monopoly, breaking a Guinness World Record. The event was a tribute to Alegra’s love for the game and a way to raise awareness about the disease that took her life.

Alegra’s mother, Sue-Ellan Vasiliou, expressed her gratitude for the support and the opportunity to honour her daughter’s memory through such a special event. The game played was an officially licensed version featuring Alegra’s image called ‘Alegra’s Army’, which was made available for purchase to help raise funds for cancer research. The event not only set a new record for the most people playing Monopoly at once but also raised money and support for the Little Legs Foundation.

This was the second time the foundation organised the Monopoly event, with the previous attempt falling just short of breaking the record. While there are no current plans for future Monopoly rematches, the Vasiliou family is open to participating in more challenges in the future. The event served as a heartwarming tribute to Alegra’s life and a meaningful way to support a cause that is close to many participants’ hearts.
