Two or more fatalities reported in storms affecting South to Northeast


In Oklahoma, a 12-year-old boy and a woman were killed after their vehicle was swept under a bridge during a severe storm that brought large hail and strong winds to the region. The Moore Police Department conducted a water rescue involving two vehicles stranded in floodwaters, but only two occupants were rescued as one vehicle was swept away. Nearly 30 severe weather reports came in on Saturday, including two unconfirmed tornadoes in Texas. The National Weather Service warned of the potential for damaging wind gusts, severe thunderstorms, large hail, and tornadoes, especially in Missouri and Arkansas.

On Easter Sunday, storms are expected to shift east, threatening 11 million people in states like Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. The National Weather Service predicts the development of robust thunderstorms in eastern Oklahoma, increasing the risk of damaging winds and tornadoes as the system moves east. Northern Arkansas, including Conway and Batesville, faces the greatest risk of tornadoes on Sunday. In Missouri, strong winds, large hail, and tornadoes are possible near St. Louis.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued across Arkansas and Missouri, with 11 million people still under flood alerts from Texas to Illinois. Power outages affected over 100,000 utility customers in the South and Northeast, with thousands still without power in states such as West Virginia and Texas. The threat of flooding continues as rainfall totals range from 3 to 7 inches in some areas.
