A woman has accused Pro Football Hall of Famer and podcaster Shannon Sharpe of sexually assaulting and battering her in a lawsuit filed in Nevada. The woman alleges that she met Sharpe when she was 19 and that he manipulated, controlled, and violated her during a two-year relationship. The complaint claims that Sharpe ignored the woman’s objections and raped her multiple times, including in Las Vegas in October and January. Sharpe’s attorney stated that the relationship was consensual, and presented sexually graphic text messages as evidence. The attorney called the lawsuit a shakedown attempt and denied the allegations. The suit also claims that Sharpe recorded sexual encounters without the woman’s consent and shared them with others. It alleges that Sharpe exhibited controlling behavior and forced the woman to have sex with him on multiple occasions. The lawsuit seeks over $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Sharpe, known for his NFL career and broadcasting work, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. ESPN, where Sharpe currently works, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
