Stolen Ambulance Recovered Quickly in Swansea

Swansea, MA – In an unusual incident this weekend, an ambulance belonging to the Swansea Ambulance Corps was stolen but recovered shortly thereafter. The vehicle, Swansea Ambulance 2, was reported missing early Sunday morning from 500 Swansea Mall Drive at Oakwood Senior Estates. Following the alert, known as a BOLO (Be On the Lookout), issued by the Massachusetts State Police around 1:00 a.m., law enforcement sprang into action.

The stolen ambulance was located quickly in Providence, Rhode Island, where it was intercepted by Rhode Island State Police and Providence Police near Broadway and Dave Gavitt Way. Authorities arrested a suspect, identified as an elderly man who reportedly took the vehicle in a state of confusion.

Fortunately, there was no damage to the ambulance, which is now back in service. Swansea Ambulance Corps remarked on social media that the situation was resolved with the help of mutual aid partners and praised the retired truck driver for navigating the vehicle without incident. The investigation into the theft is ongoing, but officials are relieved that it concluded swiftly and safely.
