Rhode Island Rowing Shines at Lake Wheeler Invitational
KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Rhode Island rowing team concluded its second day of competition at the Lake Wheeler Invitational, co-hosted by UNC and Duke, with notable performances on Saturday. The Rams achieved two impressive fifth-place finishes in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ categories.
The Varsity 4+ crew, comprised of Maddy Papik, Payton Klein, Costanza Proietti, Ava Hohl, and coxswain Evelyn Tabor, showcased a dominant race, finishing approximately 40 seconds ahead of Villanova. Meanwhile, the Varsity 8+ team, featuring Hailey Pardi, Bella Bruno, and others, secured a close finish against Villanova, maintaining a two-second lead.
In detailed results, the Varsity 4+ recorded a time of 7:50.3, while the Varsity 8+ crossed the finish line in 6:40.1. Both teams faced tough competition but demonstrated resilience and teamwork throughout the races.
The Rams’ performance at the Lake Wheeler Invitational highlights their continued growth and competitiveness in collegiate rowing as they gear up for future events.
