JOHNSTON, R.I. – A shooting incident at a gas station on Hartford Avenue late Saturday night resulted in injuries to two individuals, including a Johnston police officer. The disturbance occurred around 11:30 p.m., prompting a witness to call 911 about an argument between a man and a woman.

As Johnston Officer approached the scene, the male driver, 28, accelerated his vehicle, striking the officer. In response, the officer discharged multiple rounds, hitting the driver. Emergency services transported both the officer and the suspect to Rhode Island Hospital. Fortunately, the driver is expected to survive his injuries, while the officer is reported to have sustained minor injuries.

In accordance with established protocols for officer-involved shootings, the incident is under investigation by the Johnston Police Department, with assistance from the Rhode Island State Police and the Attorney General’s office. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
