Former Senate President Dominick Ruggerio Remembered in North Providence

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The community gathered on Sunday afternoon to honor the legacy of former Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, who passed away early Monday morning after a courageous battle with cancer and other health complications. Ruggerio, a stalwart Rhode Island lawmaker, served as a State Senator for 40 years, representing District 4, which encompasses parts of North Providence and Providence. For the last eight years of his tenure, he held the esteemed position of Senate leader.

Mourners paid their respects at Maceroni Funeral Home in North Providence, where additional viewing hours were held. The tribute continued with a Mass of Christian Burial scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, also in North Providence. Ruggerio’s commitment to public service and his contributions to Rhode Island’s legislative landscape will be remembered by many as the community reflects on his significant impact over four decades in office.
