Sandringham, Norfolk – More than 30 acres of vibrant tulip fields, planted with an astonishing nine million bulbs, are set to raise £500,000 for Tapping House hospice in Hillington, King’s Lynn. The initiative, now in its fourth year, has been spearheaded by Belmont Nurseries, with director Mark Eves expressing pride in the joy it brings to visitors.
Tapping House provides essential free care to adults in Norfolk and North Cambridgeshire who are living with life-limiting illnesses while also supporting their carers, families, and friends. The hospice relies on £6 million annually to maintain its vital services. "The fields of flowers really epitomize what we do in hospices; it’s about bringing joy to people’s lives," said Nikki Ellis, CEO of Tapping House.
Visitors can buy tickets to stroll through the breathtaking landscape, which has previously captured the attention of film, featuring in the production of the movie “Wicked.” The harvested bulbs, obtained three weeks after blooming, are exported, contributing to the floral industry.
Volunteers play an integral role, helping to plant the bulbs each year, showcasing the community spirit that underpins this charitable endeavor. Eves commented on the overwhelming response from the public, noting how the fields have become not just a source of joy, but also a vital fundraising channel for the hospice.
As the tulips prepare to blossom this season, the community looks forward to another successful year of fundraising, making a significant difference in the lives of many in need.
