Broncos Guard Xavier Truss: A Big Talent From Small Rhode Island | Sports

Rhode Island’s Xavier Truss Makes Waves at Broncos Rookie Minicamp

Denver, CO – At the Broncos’ recent rookie minicamp, Xavier Truss, a towering 6-foot-7, 320-pound offensive lineman from West Warwick, Rhode Island, stood out among his peers. Despite being undrafted, Truss signed as a free agent with the Broncos, securing a $20,000 signing bonus and a contract that guarantees $150,000, reflecting the team’s strong interest in his potential.

Truss, 23, is a rarity from Rhode Island, a state with a limited football pedigree—only 40 players have seen action in the NFL’s 105-year history. Notable names from the state include Super Bowl champions Gerry Philbin and Steve Furness. "I’m proud of my home state," Truss stated, emphasizing his desire to uplift those back home.

His football journey began in middle school, and he quickly rose to prominence at Bishop Hendricken High School, where he was ranked the top prospect in Rhode Island and the 12th best tackle in the nation during his senior year. Truss later contributed to national championship-winning teams at the University of Georgia, earning second-team All-SEC honors in 2023 and 2024.

Broncos rookie defensive end Sai’vion Jones, who faced Truss in the SEC, praised his skills and noted the parallels between Coach Kirby Smart’s Georgia program and the Broncos’ culture.

In a related note, Cameron Cooper, a guard and son of former Broncos player Mark Cooper, participated in the rookie minicamp but will not be signed. Despite this, Cooper expressed gratitude for the opportunity and hopes to remain in touch with the team.

As the Broncos gear up for organized team activities, Truss aims to prove his worth and embody the pride of his small home state.
