Power Outage Disrupts London Underground Services
London, England – A power outage caused significant disruption to the London Underground network on Monday afternoon, affecting multiple subway lines during the busy rush hour. Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that at least three lines were fully suspended, while six others experienced severe delays and partial suspensions.
The incident stemmed from a brief interruption in the power supply, as explained by Claire Mann, TfL’s chief operating officer. “Several lines lost power for a short period earlier this afternoon," she stated. TfL is currently collaborating with the National Grid to investigate the cause of the failure, which was attributed to a "fault" within their transmission network.
The National Grid reported that the issue was resolved quickly, within seconds, but the repercussions were felt across the city. Many central London stations were reported closed, leading to frustration among commuters. A spokesperson for TfL had earlier noted that the power cut impacted the south London network for "a matter of minutes."
This isn’t the first instance of power-related disruptions in recent months. Last month, a fire at an electrical substation in west London led to extensive service outages, resulting in the temporary closure of Heathrow Airport and affecting thousands of flights.
As TfL works to restore full service, passengers are advised to check their routes and prepare for continued delays. The transport authority aims to ensure smooth operations while addressing the underlying issues that led to this latest outage.
