Early Sunday morning, a devastating incident in Washington Township, Gloucester County, resulted in the removal of two bodies from the debris of a home that was severely damaged. The explosion occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Orion Way and Tranquility Court. While officials are currently investigating the situation as an “intense fire” rather than an explosion, neighbors described a terrifying scene. One resident, Susan Pinto, recounted watching a movie when she suddenly heard a loud blast and saw flames rapidly engulfing the nearby home. She immediately called 911, and fire crews arrived shortly thereafter; however, within just ten minutes, the house was completely consumed by flames.
The deceased, a man and a woman, have yet to be identified. Neighbors expressed their shock and sorrow, particularly reflecting on the man who lived in the home, describing him as kind and friendly. He was often seen walking his dog and engaging in casual conversations with those around him.
In addition to the destroyed home, two nearby residences sustained damage from the fire. As authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the fire, the community is left in shock over the tragic loss of life and the destruction of property. Neighbors have come together to support one another during this difficult time, sharing memories of the individuals lost. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
