Trump’s Chief of ‘Weaponization’ Claims D.C. Disciplinary Counsel Is Engaging in Weaponization

A contentious situation has arisen within the Justice Department as Ed Martin, the incoming head of the “Weaponization Working Group,” revealed he is under investigation by the D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel. Martin accused Disciplinary Counsel Hamilton P. “Phil” Fox III of “weaponizing” his role in handling bar complaints. In an email to his staff, Martin expressed his concerns about systemic abuses directed at prosecutors by various entities, including the Public Defender Service and judges. He indicated a personal affront at Fox’s conduct and claimed that he would confront Fox over this issue.

The investigation into Martin is reportedly in its early, non-public stage, and details will only emerge if a formal disciplinary case progresses. While Fox has refrained from commenting on the investigation, Martin’s email also contained a complaint about Fox mailing sensitive correspondence to his home and office, which led to personal inquiries from his family and colleagues.

Moreover, Martin is joining the Justice Department amid discussions about aggressive oversight inquiries related to former Special Counsel Jack Smith and the agency’s actions during the January 6 Capitol riot. Following the Senate’s decision not to confirm him for the U.S. attorney position, former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro has taken over as interim U.S. attorney.

During a press conference, Martin emphasized his intention to expose wrongdoings by individuals even if formal charges aren’t pursued, underscoring the importance of information dissemination over lengthy legal processes. He remarked on the unique historical moment and the urgency of revealing truths to the public, rather than relying solely on court proceedings.
