Press Article: Local Herb Grower Faces Ongoing Theft Issues in Adamsville
ADAMSVILLE, R.I. (WJAR) — Nicole Wordell, the owner of Village Herbs on Main Street, has reported over $1,600 in merchandise theft from her roadside farm stand within the past year. Operating on an honor system, where customers are trusted to pay for what they take, Wordell’s business model has made it vulnerable to theft. Surveillance footage captured a thief openly stealing 31 plants without even approaching the cash box.
This recent incident, occurring just two weeks ago, follows a similar theft last year that resulted in a loss exceeding $1,500. Wordell expressed her frustration, stating, "For the first time in 20 years, my passion project has been affected by crime." Despite installing cameras to deter theft, Wordell noted that neighboring vendors share her concerns, and local police recognize the suspects from her footage but have taken no action.
In response, she has ordered additional surveillance equipment, bringing the total to five cameras. As the situation unfolds, Wordell remains hopeful for a solution to protect her livelihood and restore faith in the community.
