Latest Transfer Portal Update: Two New Players Join Rhode Island Basketball. Who Are They?

Rhode Island Basketball Teams Navigate Transfer Portal Changes

The University of Rhode Island’s basketball teams are in the midst of a dynamic transfer portal period. The men’s team announced two new commitments, adding forwards Keeyan Itejere from Northern Kentucky and Alex Crawford from Fresno State, enhancing their frontcourt for the upcoming season. Itejere, who averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds last season, brings significant defensive prowess, ranking nationally in block percentage. Crawford, a versatile scorer, averaged 11.5 points and notched 17 double-digit games last season.

URI now boasts a four-player transfer class, with Itejere and Crawford joining guards RJ Johnson and Jonah Hinton, as the Rams look to strengthen their roster after losing players like Jamarques Lawrence and David Fuchs to other programs. The women’s team also faces potential changes, as forwards Hawa Komara and Anaelle Dutat have entered the portal. Komara, who experienced a productive season, previously stated her intent to return but has since reconsidered. Dutat, a defensive standout with impressive rebounding and shooting skills, could leave a significant gap.

In other local news, Providence College’s men’s team may lose guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim, who is seeking a medical hardship waiver following a season-ending knee injury. Providence is actively recruiting to recover from a challenging season, securing commitments from several players including Cole Hargrove and Daquan Davis. Meanwhile, Bryant’s Breezie Williams has signed with Wright State after a season with the Bulldogs.

As teams prepare for the 2025-26 season, the transfer portal remains a critical focus, with coaches anticipating clearer rosters and strategic additions as the April 22 deadline approaches.
