Cashel Barnett, a former contestant on “Love Island,” has been charged with multiple counts of assault, including felony aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child. He was taken into custody without bail in Utah on Monday, following a report by the mother of their 1-year-old child about an incident that allegedly occurred on April 10. According to the police report, she claimed Barnett physically assaulted her during an argument, which happened in front of their child, including slapping her arms and throttling her to the point of losing her breath and having blurry vision.
The report further states that Barnett allegedly slapped her child in the face shortly after. The mother reported experiencing a range of distressing symptoms, including difficulty breathing and memory loss, although it is unclear whether she sought medical attention following the incident. Concerns for her safety are highlighted in the warrant request, which noted that Barnett had previously threatened to kill her.
Barnett, 34, surrendered to police and is now awaiting a bail hearing set for Thursday. His attorney, Andrew K. Deesing, stated that they are in the early stages of the legal process and will refrain from commenting until after the hearing.
Barnett gained recognition from his appearance on the inaugural season of “Love Island” in 2019 and is known in Salt Lake City for his work as a drummer, model, and creator of custom video messages. His current situation has raised serious concerns about domestic violence and the safety of those involved.
