Middletown Family Seeks Justice After Apparent Hit-and-Run Incident
A Middletown family is urging for accountability following a hit-and-run involving 20-year-old Magali Ortiz, caught on surveillance video while crossing East Main Road. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday as Ortiz was returning from her job at Neon Marketplace. The footage shows her being struck by a gray Wagoneer; she was thrown several feet before hitting the pavement. Although the vehicle stopped momentarily, the driver offered a thumbs-up to Ortiz and fled the scene.
Her sister, Faith Kingston, highlighted the emotional toll on the family, revealing that Ortiz suffers from a sprained ankle and a concussion, with visible bruises and some lingering mental distress. Kingston described the moment as a near brush with tragedy, emphasizing, "I thought, like, I’m going to lose my sister."
Witnesses also recorded the vehicle leaving the scene, expressing disbelief at the driver’s actions. Kingston implored the driver—possibly with Connecticut plates and accompanied by a female passenger and child—to come forward, saying, “We just hope you would show the decency… you would want somebody to show your child.” Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Michael Kravchuk at 401-846-1144 ext. 7024.
