Rhode Island College Basketball Sees Major Transfer Portal Activity
In an exciting week for college basketball in Rhode Island, the transfer portal saw significant movement, with the University of Rhode Island (URI) men’s team making headlines by securing two new commitments. St. Bonaventure guard Jonah Hinton and Charleston Southern guard RJ Johnson announced their intentions to join the Rams, taking the places of Jamarques Lawrence and Cam Estevez, who are heading to Nebraska and Fairfield, respectively.
Hinton, a Chicago native and junior college alum, had a standout season at St. Bonaventure, scoring in double figures in 15 of 33 games, including a notable 18-point performance against URI. Meanwhile, Johnson has been steady for Charleston Southern, starting 76 of 82 games over three seasons and showcasing impressive statistics, particularly in free-throw and assist rates.
In related news, Bryant University’s men’s team introduced its new coaching staff under Jamion Christian, while the Friars men’s team faced challenges, losing guard Jayden Pierre to TCU amid competition for backcourt positions from new recruits. Bryant also added forward Keegan Harvey and acquired two recruits from Riverdale Baptist for the 2025 class.
The women’s teams also reflected a flurry of activity. Teneisha Brown, a talented frontcourt player with a successful track record, has transferred to Providence, enhancing the squad’s leadership and experience. Conversely, URI’s Katie Ledden announced her move to New Hampshire after two seasons.
Additionally, Portsmouth native Courtney Swider is transferring to Wofford after contributing to Richmond’s successful seasons, while Jack Graham has entered the transfer portal after limited play with the Spiders.
