Firefighters Tackle Huge Blaze at Historic Mill in Woonsocket, RI – Boston News, Weather, Sports

Fire Rages Through Mill Building in Woonsocket, R.I.

Woonsocket, R.I. – Emergency crews responded early Monday morning to a significant fire at an old mill building on Privilege Street, just off the Massachusetts border. The blaze ignited shortly before 1 a.m., prompting firefighters from surrounding communities to arrive and battle the flames for several hours.

By 9 a.m., the chaotic scene saw most of the building completely collapsed. Firefighters faced challenging windy conditions, exacerbating the already intense situation. Woonsocket Fire Chief Robert Cahill reported seeing the fire’s glow from a mile-and-a-half away, indicating the scale of the inferno. He commented on the fire’s magnitude: “As soon as I got called and jumped out of my house into my car, I could see the glow in the sky,” confirming that it was indeed a “big fire” from a distance.

As of 9 a.m., officials had not reported any injuries associated with the incident. However, as a precaution, they began monitoring air quality in the area, given the fire’s intensity.

Firefighters continued to secure the site and assess potential dangers in the aftermath of the collapse. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing as officials gather information.

The incident has attracted considerable attention, prompting local residents to monitor the situation closely. Officials urge community members to remain vigilant as crews work to ensure safety.

For further updates, residents are encouraged to check local news channels or follow fire department advisories.
