Fall River Pays Tribute to Beloved Baseball Coach

Fall River Mourns Beloved Baseball Coach Don Chouinard

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WJAR) — The city of Fall River is grieving the loss of Don Chouinard, a cherished baseball coach and guidance counselor who dedicated 43 years to Bishop Connelly High School before retiring in 2005. A lifelong resident known affectionately as “Bucky,” Chouinard was renowned for his passion for baseball and his dedication to mentorship.

Chouinard’s son, Paul, recalled his father’s commitment to the sport and how he approached life “his way, Frank Sinatra’s way.” Don’s love for baseball was evident, as he emphasized fair play and competitive spirit while coaching thousands of young athletes.

Tragically, Don passed away on Monday due to heart failure while listening to "Unchained Melody," a song that held special meaning due to the loss of his wife to cancer. His son noted that “people can die from a broken heart," reflecting on how deeply his father felt that loss.

Brad Bustin, Athletic Director at BMC Durfee High School, expressed condolences, highlighting Chouinard’s impact on the community as both a coach and counselor. His funeral is set for Sunday in Fall River, where many will come to honor his legacy.
