GoNetspeed Expands High-Speed Fiber Internet to Newport, Rhode Island
GoNetspeed is set to launch a high-speed fiber internet network in Newport, Rhode Island, marking its expansion into a tenth state. The company has announced a $13 million investment, aimed at providing multigigabit internet access to over 8,200 homes and businesses in the area.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee highlighted the critical importance of this project, stating, “Fast, reliable internet is essential for Rhode Islanders. This investment enhances connectivity and supports local businesses, allowing everyone to engage in today’s digital landscape.” The initiative is a collaborative effort with the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, backed by a $9 million contribution from the state’s Capital Projects Fund and an additional $3.9 million from GoNetspeed.
Construction is slated to commence in fall 2025, with the first customers expected to be connected by spring 2026. The project is projected to be fully completed by the end of 2026. Richard Clark, GoNetspeed’s President and CEO, expressed excitement about Newport being the inaugural Rhode Island city to benefit from their fiber-optic network.
