The British Heart Foundation also warns that over 50% of Britain’s daily food intake consists of ultra-processed options, which are linked to hypertension.

Kassis recommends prioritizing whole foods, including non-starchy vegetables and low-glycemic fruits, and maintaining a balanced diet featuring starchy foods and proteins. She also suggests swapping table salt for sea salt but cautions against excessive sodium intake.

With hypertension’s increasing prevalence, the NHS urges individuals over 40 to schedule blood pressure checks if they haven’t done so in the last five years. Those concerned about their health are encouraged to consult with their GP or take advantage of local pharmacy testing services.
