FBI and ICE Conduct Sweeps on Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard was the scene of heightened law enforcement activity on Tuesday as eyewitnesses reported the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducting traffic stops throughout the island. Multiple social media posts highlighted the presence of federal officers in unmarked vehicles, with some visibly wearing FBI jackets.
Thiago Alves, owner of L&R Electrical Services, confirmed that one of his workers—who holds a green card—was stopped and questioned about his immigration status. “They questioned my guys looking for paperwork," Alves said, noting that other trade workers also faced similar stops.
An anonymous witness reported seeing arrests made in Vineyard Haven, describing officers forcibly removing individuals from their vehicles. A representative from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) confirmed their involvement, stating they were assisting ICE during the operations.
Local schools, particularly those serving a significant number of immigrant families, were on high alert. Superintendent Richard Smith reassured parents in an email, outlining protocols to protect students and families from potential immigration inquiries.
As of now, neither the FBI nor ICE has provided official comments regarding the operations. Community and law enforcement officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
