Father and Daughter Go Missing While Hiking in Maine; Father Found Deceased, Daughter Remains Lost

A search for a missing hiker daughter is ongoing after the body of 58-year-old Tim Keiderling was discovered on Mount Katahdin in Maine. Tim and his 28-year-old daughter, Esther, were reported missing on Sunday following their attempt to hike the summit. Their journey began at the Abol Campground, and they were last seen around 10:15 a.m. that day.

The search operation commenced on Monday after rangers found their vehicle in a nearby parking area. In response, teams composed of game wardens, park rangers, and K-9 units initiated a thorough search both on the ground and via aerial support from Maine Forest Service and Maine Army National Guard helicopters.

Authorities are focusing their efforts on the Tablelands area, along with trails and streams on the eastern side of the mountain. According to a press release from Baxter State Park, search operations are continuing as crews work to locate Esther, who remains unaccounted for. The hiking pair hailed from Ulster Park, New York, and their disappearance has raised concerns among family and search teams as they dedicate resources to finding Esther. The search efforts underscore the risks associated with hiking in challenging terrains, especially when conditions can change rapidly. As the investigation continues, officials remain hopeful for Esther’s safe recovery.
