McKee’s Re-Election Campaign Gains Momentum with Strategic Team
Governor Dan McKee of Rhode Island has officially committed to a re-election bid, announcing a talented team to spearhead his campaign. In a recent statement, McKee expressed his enthusiasm: “Nobody will outwork us on the trail,” highlighting the expertise of campaign operatives Rob Silverstein and Neil Spencer. McKee, who represents the Democratic Party, aims to tackle key issues such as income growth, education enhancement, and gun violence.
This announcement comes amidst mixed poll results. A recent University of New Hampshire poll showed McKee’s approval rating plummeting to 19%, with 74% of respondents believing he should not seek re-election. In contrast, earlier polls indicated slightly better performance, with a Morning Consult survey revealing a 43% approval rate.
McKee is gearing up for a rematch against Helena Buonanno Foulkes, a former CVS executive who nearly unseated him in the 2022 Democratic primary. Foulkes demonstrated considerable fundraising prowess, raising over $610,000 in the first quarter of 2025, significantly more than McKee’s $257,000.
Potential challengers could also emerge, including House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, who boasts more than $3.4 million in campaign resources, and Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, contemplating a gubernatorial run.
Silverstein emphasized the campaign’s focus on McKee’s achievements and the need for stable leadership amid political turbulence, referencing the ongoing chaos from national politics. The addition of Spencer, a notable fundraiser with a strong track record, has drawn praise from key Democratic figures.
As McKee’s campaign progresses, his team appears determined to leverage their combined experience to secure continued governance for Rhode Island. The forthcoming months will be crucial as they prepare for the upcoming election cycle.
