Norwood School Shines in Disney’s Aladdin Kids Production
Norwood, MA – January 23, 2023 – Last Thursday, Norwood School’s all-purpose room transformed into a stage as third to fifth graders presented three performances of Disney’s "Aladdin Kids." Directed by Principal Sabrina Antonelli, who was named the state’s elementary school principal of the year in 2023, the production was the culmination of months of preparation under the Disney Musicals in Schools program, in collaboration with the Providence Performance Arts Center (PPAC).
Janice Ruggieri, a long-time staff member, expressed her awe at witnessing the students’ growth and enthusiasm during the event. The school previously staged "Finding Nemo" under the same partnership. This year’s show involved after-school rehearsals and a significant investment in scripts, which next year will require the school to cover half the costs.
Antonelli, who actively integrated her training from PPAC into the production, noted a dramatic decline in student absenteeism linked to the theater program, emphasizing its positive impact on student confidence and engagement. The evening concluded with a standing ovation from parents and friends, demonstrating the success and community spirit of the Norwood School’s performing arts initiative.
