Dayton Flyers Fall Short Against Rhode Island in Thrilling Baseball Showdown
Kingston, R.I. – In a nail-biting clash at Bill Beck Field, the University of Dayton baseball team succumbed to Rhode Island, losing a close contest 11-10 on Friday afternoon. The Flyers demonstrated their resilience, fighting back from multiple deficits but ultimately fell short.
Dayton started strong, securing an early run in the first inning. However, Rhode Island quickly responded, scoring five unanswered runs, showcasing their offensive prowess. The Flyers battled back to take a brief lead in the fifth inning, but the Rams retaliated with a robust four-run inning to regain the advantage.
The see-saw battle continued as Dayton managed to tie the game in the eighth inning. Yet, URI responded promptly, reclaiming the lead with two additional runs. Despite a late rally from Dayton, which included one run in the top of the ninth, they could not find the equalizer.
A standout performance for Dayton included three hits each from sophomore Michael DiMartini, senior Mason Dobie, and freshman Rylan Lujo. Both redshirt sophomore Bobby Stang and sophomore Adin Zorn contributed significantly with home runs, bringing their season totals to six each.
In total, the Flyers had 15 hits, marking their 11th game with double-digit hits in Atlantic 10 play this season. Lujo notably reached base five times, adding two walks to his impressive hitting performance.
