La Salle Men’s Basketball Falls to Rhode Island, Prepares for Richmond Showdown
Kingston, R.I. — In an action-packed game on Saturday, the La Salle Explorers faced a tough defeat against the Rhode Island Rams, ending the contest at 86-71. Despite the outcome, La Salle showcased a solid offensive performance with five players scoring in double figures for the second time in five games.
Freshman guard Deuce Jones delivered a standout performance, marking his first career double-double with 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Additionally, he recorded five steals and four assists, highlighting his growing impact on the team.
The game unfolded energetically in the first half with Jahlil White sinking two quick three-pointers, giving the Explorers an early lead. However, foul trouble struck, with White and Mac Etienne each accruing two fouls within the first seven minutes. Although Rhode Island surged to a 34-19 lead, La Salle responded with a rally. A buzzer-beating three-pointer from Corey McKeithan capped a 12-1 run, narrowing the score to just four points at halftime, 38-34.
As the second half commenced, Rhode Island’s momentum surged, scoring the first eight points. La Salle fought back, trimming a 13-point deficit and trading runs with the Rams. Jones strategically converted a four-point play, bringing the Explorers within five at 70-65. Yet, Rhode Island’s late surge ensured their victory.
Inside the numbers, McKeithan reached double figures for the third consecutive game, while both White and Demetrius Lilley contributed 13 points each.
