June 9, 2025 – A strategic technology alliance has been formed among Honeywell, Johnson Matthey, GIDARA Energy, and SAMSUNG E&A to innovate the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using biomass and municipal solid waste.

The alliance aims to provide a comprehensive global solution that streamlines the entire SAF production process, from sourcing feedstock to delivering the final product. By leveraging the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) production process, the coalition intends to unlock diverse feedstock options to meet the rising demand for SAF, thereby enhancing energy security.

The collaboration offers a unified technology framework designed to expedite project timelines and to ensure accountability in project execution. According to the alliance, the integrated approach is expected to cut the feasibility study-to-startup period by over 15% and reduce capital expenses by up to 10%.

Ken West, Honeywell’s President and CEO of Energy and Sustainability Solutions, underscored the alliance’s commitment to addressing global energy needs through collaboration. "As demand for SAF grows, our integrated approach provides refiners with a speedy, strategic path to realizing their vision," he stated.

Maurits van Tol, CEO of Catalyst Technologies at Johnson Matthey, echoed this sentiment, noting the alliance’s focus on overcoming common challenges faced by SAF producers. Dr. Norbert Kamp, CEO of GIDARA Energy, emphasized the transformative potential of waste, suggesting the collaboration not only offers technical solutions but also helps communities leverage waste for cleaner energy.

This joint venture is a significant step forward in accelerating SAF deployment worldwide, affirming that when expertise and ambition merge, innovation thrives.
