Dayton Women’s Basketball Falls to Rhode Island, 57-36

Kingston, R.I. – The University of Dayton women’s basketball team faced a tough game on the road, suffering a 57-36 defeat against the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. With the loss, the Flyers’ record now stands at 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, placing them a game behind the Rams, who improved to 13-12 and 8-4 in A-10 play.

The game opened with a strong defensive effort from Dayton, allowing only a pair of free throws to Rhode Island in the initial minutes. However, the Rams quickly gained momentum, taking the lead and pushing ahead to a 14-7 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Rhode Island continued their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring Dayton 17-4 and extending their lead to 31-11 at halftime. The Flyers struggled offensively, managing only four field goals in the first half and shooting just 16 percent from the floor.

In the third quarter, Dayton showed signs of life, scoring more points than in any other quarter. Senior Ivy Wolf and graduate student Nicole Stephens contributed key baskets, bringing the score to 37-21 at one point. But the Rams responded with an 11-0 run, cementing their lead.

Despite the mounting deficit, Dayton fought back in the fourth quarter, led by Wolf’s 11 points and Stephens’ ten. The Flyers outscored Rhode Island in the paint, 26 to 24, but could not overcome their shooting challenges, finishing the game with a 26 percent shooting rate.

Looking ahead, Dayton will host Davidson College on Wednesday, February 12, for their annual School Day game at 11 a.m. Fans are encouraged to follow the Flyers on social media for updates.
