University of Rhode Island Unveils Refreshed Rams Logo
The University of Rhode Island (URI) has launched a new Rams head logo, signaling a vibrant update to its longstanding mascot representation. Announced recently on social media, the logo showcases a striking frontal view of a ram with large, formidable horns, departing from the previous side profile design. The refreshed emblem prominently features URI’s colors—navy blue, light blue (known as Keaney blue), grey, and white—symbolizing school spirit and pride.
Since adopting the ram as its mascot in 1923, URI has embraced this symbol, reflecting its agricultural roots. The institution was originally founded in 1888 as the Rhode Island College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts on the Oliver Watson Farm in Kingston. Over the decades, URI has evolved significantly, transitioning from Rhode Island State College in 1909 to its current status as the University of Rhode Island in 1951. The new logo not only aligns with this evolution but also aims to resonate with both current students and alumni.
In addition to the Rams logo, URI continues to utilize an "RI" logo designed in its school colors to enhance its brand identity. The introduction of new merchandise featuring the newly designed Rams logo further signifies URI’s commitment to fostering school spirit and community engagement among its students and supporters.
As the university steps into a new era with its refreshed image, it remains steeped in history while looking forward to a future that honors its legacy and agricultural heritage.
