Thousands Rally in Southern New England for "No Kings Day" Protests Against Trump

PROVIDENCE, RI — Thousands converged across Southern New England on Saturday for "No Kings Day," voicing opposition to President Donald Trump’s policies during his second term.

In Providence, demonstrators marched around the statehouse and India Point Park, carrying signs and flags. Organizers expressed a collective desire for Trump’s removal, citing his administration’s effect on immigration and constitutional rights. Reina Rebelde, a key organizer, stated, "He’s been terrorizing our communities."

Among the crowd was Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed, who highlighted the importance of addressing what he termed "the excesses" of Trump’s governance. In contrast, state GOP Chair Joe Powers defended the administration, insisting that the policies reflect what the American majority supports.

Despite differing views, Providence police reported no incidents during the rallies. They estimated around 5,000 attendees at the statehouse and about 1,000 at India Point Park. These events were part of a broader national initiative, coinciding with Trump’s birthday and a military parade in Washington, and saw over 1,000 rallies occurring nationwide. The demonstration underscored the heightened political tensions and community activism in the region.
