Brian Johnson, a social media fitness influencer known as the “Liver King,” was arrested on Tuesday after making threats against popular podcaster Joe Rogan in a series of videos posted on Instagram. The Austin Police Department reported that Johnson, who had traveled to Austin, issued challenges to Rogan, stating, “Joe Rogan, I’m calling you out, my name’s Liver King. Man to man, I’m picking a fight with you.” He acknowledged his lack of training in jiu-jitsu compared to Rogan’s black belt status, yet expressed a desire for a physical confrontation, even describing it as a “dream come true” if Rogan were to “choke me out.”
The police contacted Rogan on Tuesday, who noted he had never interacted with Johnson before and viewed the posts as threatening. The arrest took place later that day at the Four Seasons Hotel, leading to charges of making a terrorist threat, classified as a class B misdemeanor.
Both Johnson and Rogan’s representatives did not respond to requests for comments regarding the incident. Johnson, who promotes what he calls the “ancestral lifestyle” through consumables like raw meat and animal organs, has faced criticism from nutritionists for promoting misinformation. Although Johnson has never been a guest on Rogan’s podcast, their connection was highlighted in a 2023 episode that discussed Johnson’s alleged steroid use, which he initially denied but later apologized for. Following the arrest, a video of Johnson being taken into custody was shared on his Instagram, which has over 3 million followers.
