Lisa Marie Presley kept her deceased son’s body at home for 2 months following his death

Lisa Marie Presley kept the body of her late son, Benjamin Keough, on ice at home for two months following his suicide in 2020, as revealed in her posthumously published memoir “From Here to the Great Unknown,” completed by her daughter Riley Keough. Keough explained that her mother wanted to spend ample time saying goodbye to her son, similar to how she did with her father, Elvis Presley. The family kept Benjamin’s body in a separate room at 55 degrees and got matching tattoos in his honor. However, the experience began to feel strange, and eventually, they decided to lay Benjamin to rest at Graceland.

Presley’s decision to keep her son’s body at home for an extended period may seem unconventional, but she found comfort in being able to spend time with him and talk to him. California law does not mandate an immediate burial or disposal of a body, allowing Presley to keep Benjamin at home. The family’s tattoo moment with an artist who visited their home to ink matching tattoos brought about a realization that it was time to move Benjamin’s body to its final resting place.

Riley Keough shared in the memoir that they felt a sense of their brother communicating with them, indicating that it was time for him to be laid to rest outside the family home. Both Benjamin Keough and his mother are now interred at Graceland, bringing closure to their unconventional grieving process.
