A recent NBC News poll shows that more Americans are eager to vote early in the upcoming election compared to before the pandemic. 5% of registered voters have already cast their ballots, while 47% plan to vote early (20% by mail, 27% in person). Overall, 52% of voters intend to vote early, with 44% planning to vote on Election Day. This is similar to 2018 midterm election numbers, but lower than the 2020 election when 59% of respondents planned to vote early. The data also shows a significant increase from the 41% who planned to vote early in 2016. The partisan divide on early voting remains strong, with Vice President Kamala Harris leading among early voters and former President Donald Trump leading among Election Day voters. The poll, conducted from Oct. 4-8 with 1,000 registered voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. This data highlights the changing attitudes towards early voting in the US and the continued impact of partisanship on voting behavior.
