Best Friend, a male macaroni penguin at SeaWorld San Diego, recently celebrated his 40th birthday, making him one of the oldest penguins in captivity. Normally, macaroni penguins only live up to 30 years in captivity and 15 years in the wild, so Best Friend’s longevity is a testament to the care he receives at SeaWorld. The staff at SeaWorld’s Penguin Encounter are dedicated to conservation and providing excellent care for their animals. They believe that having ambassador animals like Best Friend helps raise awareness about endangered species and the importance of protecting them. Best Friend is not the oldest penguin at SeaWorld, as an emperor penguin reached the impressive age of 49 a few years ago. The staff at SeaWorld are proud of Best Friend’s milestone and continue to provide him with the care and attention he deserves. Despite his age, Best Friend still looks “dashing” and brings joy to everyone who visits him at SeaWorld.
