Two Guatemalan immigrants who were part of a group involved in a series of thefts at home improvement and clothing retail stores in multiple states have been ordered to be removed from the United States. The four men, including Marvin Estuardo Morales De Paz of Cranston and Sebastian Lajuj-Solomon of Providence, participated in over 30 thefts between July 2019 and April 2024, stealing goods such as electrical wire, flooring, and power tools. Searches of their residences resulted in the seizure of stolen goods and cash.
Morales De Paz, described as a twice-deported immigrant and a consistent member of the conspiracy, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, with an immigration detainer filed against him. Lajuj-Solomon has already been deported to Guatemala after serving nine months in prison. The group of Guatemalan nationals, totaling up to fifteen members, targeted stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
The organized theft ring operated by stealing high-value items and sometimes reselling them. Authorities conducted search warrants resulting in the recovery of stolen goods and cash. The continued efforts by law enforcement to crack down on organized retail theft highlight the consequences faced by those involved in such criminal activities. Prosecutors are vigilant in pursuing justice and holding accountable individuals who engage in illegal activities for personal gain.
