Bangladesh faced a comprehensive defeat in the first Test match in Chennai as Ravichandran Ashwin’s exceptional performance led India to victory. Chasing a target of 515 runs, Bangladesh were all out for 234 on the fourth day, with only skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto offering resistance. Ashwin, who scored a century in the first innings, took a total of 10 wickets in the match and was named player of the match for his all-round performance.
Ashwin’s spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja also played a crucial role, claiming three wickets on the final day. The partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja in the first innings put India in a strong position, eventually leading to their victory. India’s next Test will be against Bangladesh in Kanpur, where they will look to further extend their lead in the World Test Championship rankings.
Despite a landmark series win in Pakistan, Bangladesh could not overcome India in the first Test. The match also marked the return of Rishabh Pant to the Indian team after a serious car crash in 2022. With players like Shubman Gill also performing well, India demonstrated their dominance in the Test format. The series is now heading to Kanpur for the second Test match, where Bangladesh will look to bounce back and secure their first-ever Test victory against India.
