River Hawks Settle for 1-1 Draw against Rhode Island

UMass Lowell women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon, with senior Laura Cetina scoring her first goal of the season. Head Coach Mira Novak expressed disappointment in the team’s performance but highlighted the goal scored when they were down. The River Hawks outshot the Rams by one and goalkeeper Taylor Burgess made five saves. The game started slowly offensively, with Cetina scoring in the 39th minute to equalize after Jill Rosenfeld gave Rhode Island the lead. Both teams had chances in the second half, with Cetina’s shot going just high and a free kick by Calliste Brookshire narrowly missing the goal. The game ended in a draw, with Novak looking forward to resting and training for the next match against Central Connecticut State University on September 8. The River Hawks showed resilience in coming back from a goal down and will be looking to build on this performance in upcoming games. The team will focus on recovery and preparation to put on a better showing in their next match.
