Former cheerleading coach Alyshia Tkacs, 35, has agreed to a plea deal in Superior Court after being charged with multiple counts of child molestation. The abuse took place almost daily between 2012 and 2014 in East Providence and Barrington. The survivor, who remained anonymous, spoke out at the plea deal hearing, describing the trauma she endured at the hands of Tkacs. The survivor, who met Tkacs through a competitive cheerleading organization, was between the ages of 12 and 14 at the time of the abuse. Tkacs admitted to the charges in court and was sentenced to 30 years, including 10 years at the ACI. She must stay away from the survivor for 30 years, register as a sex offender for life, and undergo sex offender counseling. Despite the trauma, the survivor has achieved several accolades and is now a mental health therapist. Tkacs must serve the remaining time of her sentence and is required to seek the available resources on the Day One website for victims of sexual assault/abuse.
