Experience Lunar New Year at Westerly Library & Wilcox Park | Guest Columns

The Westerly Library & Wilcox Park is gearing up for their Lunar New Year celebration this coming Saturday, Feb. 8. The event will include various activities such as crafts, cultural demonstrations, and a traditional lion dance performance by the Rhode Island Kung Fu & Lion Dance Club. The Lunar New Year, often referred to as Chinese New Year, is a significant holiday in Chinese culture as well as in other countries, and involves spending time with family, honoring ancestors, and feasting. The library’s celebration will offer attendees the chance to learn more about these traditions and Chinese culture.

Activities will include a kids’ craft table where children can decorate wooden snake ornaments, a demonstration on creating cherry blossom branches, and a lesson on hand-folding dumplings. Free spring rolls will also be available for attendees. The event will kick off at 1 p.m. in the third-floor Terrace Room and is open to all ages. This promises to be a culturally rich and exciting afternoon for all who attend.
