Deloitte Donates $5 Million to Rhode Island Following RIBridges Data Breach

Deloitte has agreed to pay Rhode Island $5 million as part of the RIBridges data breach settlement, announced by the state on Tuesday. The payment is intended to help cover expenses related to the breach, including the cost of a data breach call center, credit monitoring, and identity protection for impacted customers. The Governor’s office expressed gratitude for Deloitte’s financial support in a statement.

Approximately 2,000 HealthSource RI customers have been enrolled directly in January and February, according to the Governor’s office. The RIBridges system is undergoing a phased relaunch, with Governor Dan McKee scheduled to provide an update on Tuesday. However, the update was rescheduled due to systemic slowdowns being addressed by the administration.

Deloitte’s payment to Rhode Island is in addition to other costs they are covering related to the breach. The agreement reflects the company’s recognition of the state’s immediate financial needs following the breach.
