Motion Nightclub in Providence has been temporarily closed by the Providence Board of Licenses following a chaotic incident on January 26 involving nearly 500 people and 20 police officers. In response, the board has mandated a police detail at the club for the next 60 days. Seven individuals were arrested during the incident on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction, and assault.
Chairman of the Providence Board of Licenses, Dylan Conley, stated that the two-day closure and 60-day police detail is a severe penalty for the club. The decision to close Motion for 72 hours was made after reviewing body cam footage and seeing the large crowd outside the club and the subsequent arrests. The Providence Police Department has not yet commented on the incident.
The Providence community is now awaiting further updates from city officials regarding the fate of Motion Nightclub and how they plan to address potential future incidents.
